  • 18 Unique Ways To Learn and Speak English Better in 2021

You have to learn and understand what homonyms, synonyms, homophones, antonyms, verbs, nouns, etc.

You may know about this from textbooks, but nothing will beat real-world learning.

This means spending up to 15 minutes a day listening and speaking in English. This will help you to learn the accent, rhythm and vocabulary better

The Fastest Way to Improve Speaking

18 Ways You Can Learn and Speak English in 2021

Use An English Dictionary and Notebook

It’s always good to have an English dictionary with you, so you can look it up when you’re introduced to a new word

The dictionary will show you how the word is broken down into syllables as well as its meaning.

Use the notebook to write down this information. When you get free time, you can review what you heard and learn more about it. Say the word out loud several times until you get a feel for it. As you become more experienced, you can add the word to a sentence.

    Use English Teaching/Learning Apps

Turn your smartphone into a learning tool. There are tons of free (and paid) apps that can help you learn the English language. One such tool is Duolingo. It’s a free app that you can download and practice with every day.

Make sure to find an app that you can remember to use and practice 10 minutes a day. This will help you to get a feel for the language better.

If you don’t have a smartphone, you can always download it to your computer or tablet.

Find a Native Speaker to practice with

    Watch Tv

Most people tend to watch television, so choose a show that you like to watch in your current language and watch it in English instead. This will help you to expand your show-watching repertoire and learn more English.

    watch Movies

Similar to television shows, people love to watch movies. This can be on TV, movie theaters, Netflix or some other subscription-based service. Watch these movies in your native language but turn on the subtitles. As you learn the movie by subtitles, you can watch the movies in English.

    Sing song in English

Singing is one denominator of any language. The tune of a song will help you to learn the words. When you listen to the words in English, you can sing along with them the next time you hear them. Songs can be heard on YouTube, radio, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, etc.

With Spotify and Amazon, you can choose from a plethora of songs and make a playlist. They also have their own playlists based on things you’ve previously listened to. With YouTube, you can create a list to random play as you do other things around the house, computer, laptop, tablet, etc.

    Radio

Radio is more than just songs. If you use SiriusXM and another similar service, you can turn to its comedy shows, news stations or even NFL channels to learn English. There are hundreds of channels to choose from, and that doesn’t even take the AM/FM stations into consideration.

    Play Board Games

Another way to learn the English language is to play board games such as Scrabble, Rummikub, Alphabet Bingo, Apples to Apples, UpWords, Boggle, Scattergories, etc. You can play them with a native speaker or with a learner such as yourself.  Use a dictionary and have your notebook on hand to write down words you don’t know (for future references and learning).

    Play Smartphone Game Apps

Use your smartphone to download apps that let you learn English words. Such apps can include Babbel, Duolingo, Scrabble, Word Search, Tandem, etc. Many of these game apps are free and do wonders in increasing your English vocabulary.

    Record Yourself Talking In English

Go ahead and record yourself talking in English, then play it back. Make a note in your notebook of the mistakes you made and learn from them. When you record yourself, see what improvements you have made (if any).

    Read Whatever You Can

It doesn’t matter what kind of reading material you use to read and learn English – magazines, books, articles, newspapers, etc. You add more vocabulary words to your notebooks and learn to read the language

Look up the new words in your dictionary. Start with some easy books and expand your collection as you better learn the English language.

    Use Audiobooks

Be sure to download and listen to audiobooks – no matter what kind of audiobook it is. This will help you learn English when you’re doing something else such as cleaning, traveling, cooking, etc.

    Create Flashcards

A way to learn phrases you have heard is to create your own flashcards. Get some index cards and write the words or phrases you want to know more, adding in their syllables, definition and whatever else that could help you learn the word better. Do this in your native language first, then write it in English to help you learn it.

    Find A English-Learning Forum

Use the Internet to find English-learning forums to help you understand the language. Online forums are useful for all kinds of topics, including speaking, talking, and writing English. Be sure to talk with other users and start conversations. Generate conversations people will want to talk about. Respond to comments made to help you learn English.

    Write In English

Another way to learn English is to actually write in it. This will help you to spell it correctly and understand how the word is used in a sentence. Look back at your own notebook and use the English dictionary to help you further.

    Participate In Like-Minded Groups

Seek out others who are trying to learn the English language and participate in the group. These individuals will talk and speak to each other, helping others to understand the language better. A new topic should be discussed each time you get together. Hang out often (weekly even), meeting for lunch or coffee.

You can even walk the local park, but make sure you are talking in English with each other. Do not resort to your native language, which can be easy to do.

Get Involved In A Club or Activity

Do you have an interest in sports, bowling, etc.? Do you have a hobby you want to learn more about? Be sure to find clubs that let you participate in the activity you love and learn English simultaneously.

    Spend Time With Native Speakers

Build your English-speaking confidence by talking to a native English speaker. Be sure it’s someone you trust to practice with and won’t make you feel embarrassed about learning. What you want to gain from this person is not only what a word means, but how the word is spoken (their accent).

You want the topic of conversations to be diverse, which will help you learn many different words.

    Practice Often

It cannot be said enough that practice makes perfect. If you’re going to master the English language, you must practice, at minimum, two times a week. You can do this by talking to a native speaker or by learning it with other English learners. You can also learn on your own, but practice and practice often. The more you practice, the more confidence you will gain.

Ten minutes a day can do wonders for your learning and help you gain confidence in your English-speaking skills. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect.

    What To Keep In Mind

You may wonder how is that children can pick a new language so easily and quickly. You have to keep in mind that the younger a person is, the easier it is to learn a new language. Children are like sponges. They soak up knowledge willingly. They learn to speak new languages without textbooks, grammar rules and spelling lists.

We use that natural learning method and apply it to a 100 percent conversation program. Native English speakers/teachers will teach you how to speak English. You’ll be taught idioms, slang and more, so you come across as a natural speaker. With this teaching method, you practice what you learn and retain the material better.

Book knowledge is sufficient, but nothing beats real-world experience. This means you need to go beyond the books and put what you know into action.  If you want to learn English and be fluent in it, you must practice with a native speaker.
