I’ve worked as a Spoken English Conversation Partner for a year while living in China, Lithuania, and Thailand. In addition to formal teaching, I tutored students on the weekends through casual English conversation.

I graduated with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Public Health from The College of William and Mary. After the completion of my undergraduate studies I taught English abroad in various countries.

Spoken English Partner

What are the biggest challenges for students learning English as a second language?

Finding a reliable Spoken English Conversation partner! Learning English requires constant practice and language immersion. Phonics in the English language can also be tricky. English has basic rules, but there are so many ‘exception’ words you just have to learn with time and practice.

As a Spoken English Conversation Partner, what are some tips you would like to share with English learners?

Practice speaking and listening as often as you can! In addition to finding a reliable and consistent Spoken English Conversation partner, listen to podcasts, tv, and radio in English. The more you immerse yourself with the language the more familiar you will be will tones, idioms, grammar, and vocabulary! There are listening opportunities available for all levels. I can help you find some that fit your interests.

How would you describe a typical English lesson you would conduct?

My English lessons are upbeat and personal. I truly want to learn about my student’s life and hobbies. I help students practice for exams, interviews, or simply talk with you about your hobbies and interests. I’ll help with grammar, new vocabulary, and pronunciation as much as the student would like throughout the lesson. However, my lessons are conversation focused!

Tell us about your travel experiences and interactions with other cultures

Learning about other cultures, and especially the food, is my favorite part of traveling! So far I’ve been able to live in 5 different countries and travel to 13 countries. Cooking is a passion that grows with my travels. I enjoy the diverse culinary opportunities throughout the world and always learn about new spices, cooking methods, and dishes!
