8 Ways to Take Your English Fluency to the Next Level without Grammar
As you know, there are four areas of learning a new language. These areas are speaking, reading, writing and listening. Plenty of regular practice will help you take your English fluency to the next level and you will be delighted with your progress. Make time to Practice several times a week. Here are 8 ways to take your English fluency to the next level without memorizing or studying grammar:
Reading
Try reading different articles, different books, different magazines and different newspapers. This will help improve not only your reading but your vocabulary as well. Make a note of all new words you are reading and look up their meanings in a good dictionary. Start with easier books, articles etc and then progress to intermediate ones and then more advanced reading including more complicated books.
Listening
Watch film and television series and listen to different accents. There are many different television series and films acted by actors and actresses who have different accents. Listen to rhythm and intonation of their voices. There are many podcasts on the internet that you can also listen to help in this area. Listen to songs on either the internet or via an MP3 player. Learn the words in English and then sing along.
Improving English fluency depends a great deal on been familiar with Native English sounds and listening is a great way to do this.
Writing
Learn how to write in different formats, whether emails, business and/or casual correspondence. All this will help you take your English fluency to the next level.
Speaking
Listen to accents, intonation and rhythm and these will help you with your speaking. Read tongue twisters and practice saying these out loud starting by saying them slowly and then increase the speed in which you say these tongue twisters. Each tongue twister will Practice on a certain letter or blend of letters.
Record yourself speaking and then listen and then rerecord yourself to improve your English speaking. Also Practice speaking by reading out loud any articles from books, newspapers and magazines. Tenses
Memorizing grammar rules is a waste of time of your goal is improving English fluency but having a basic understanding of grammar, specially an understanding of tenses, is helpful.
Make sure you are using the correct tenses in English. Make sure you understand the grammar rules of tenses used in English which include present, future, past and imperfect. Tenses are very important to be able to use well as your English fluency progresses. Learn the past participles of verbs as well as some of these are irregular and their spellings need to be learnt to enable you to progress well.
Don’t ever memorize grammar rules. Don’t memorize tenses. Just learn them and start using them in real conversations. That is the best way to naturally learn grammar.
Learn English vocabulary
Keep a notebook of all new words you learn on a regular basis. Buy a good English dictionary which will give you the meaning of each new word together with showing you how to break up these new words into syllables which then enables you to put the word back together to say this new word correctly. Check regularly to ensure you remember both the word and its meaning.
Download apps for learning English
There are many apps on the internet that you can download onto your mobile to help Practice daily even if for only 10 minutes per day. Duolingo is a free app to help you but there are others – some charge but Duolingo is free.
Practice regularly
If you want to improve your English fluency you need to Practice at least twice a week with either a native English speaker or with others learning English all together. Watch films or television series or listen to radio and audio programs. The more you Practice the quicker you will progress in all areas of learning English. A native English speaker will be able to correct your pronunciation and encourage ways of you speaking more confidently and more fluently on any given topic of your choice.
By working on all the above, you will also improve your grammar which also helps you improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking. The more you Practice, the more you will see an improvement in learning English and in turn you will become more confident in using fluent English with others. The more advanced you become, the more you will be able to discuss more advanced topics and communicate well with native English speakers.
