  • 6 Ways to Find a Partner for English Speaking Practice

Practicing aloud, speaking with others, and having conversations are all essential to becoming fluent in spoken English. In order to do this, an English language learner will need someone to meet with and practice with on a regular basis. However, it can be difficult to find someone who is a native English speaker, or is willing to put in the extra effort to help you. Fortunately, there are many different resources, in person and online, that can make finding a partner much easier. Below are some ways to help you find a partner for English speaking practice so you can take your English to the next level.

    Ask Friends and Acquaintances

The easiest way to find a partner is asking someone you already know. The possibilities are endless. You could ask your close friends, neighbors, coworkers, teachers or professors. They may be fluent, native English speakers; you will never know unless you ask.

Even if your immediate friends are not native speakers, they may know someone who is, and would be willing to help you. They may also have valuable information about classes or other resources nearby that could help you find a partner for English speaking practice.

    Visit Local Language Centers

Language Centers are institutions that specialize in teaching the local community different languages. These organizations hold classes and have other resources to help you learn English. Attending their classes or visiting the center can introduce you to others who are trying to learn English, or people interested in teaching it to others. It is a potential goldmine for finding a partner for English speaking practice! Even after completing a class or course, you could still keep in contact with the people you met through the center. From there, they could become your partner and you can practice whenever you want!

    Be Involved In Universities

If you live or are studying in the United States, many American universities have their own language centers or support services for ESL (English Second Language) students. These programs are a great way to find a tutor that could practice English with you, and could also help you with your essays or other assignments that require knowledge of the English language. You could also meet other students who want to practice English. These students could become your partner, or just a casual friend that you chat with.

In fact, many colleges have international and foreign exchange programs, so there are most likely a huge number of students who could benefit from being your partner. Together, you could teach each other new words and sayings. Universities also have different language clubs, which could be yet another place to find a partner for English speaking practice.

    Post An Ad

Speaking of universities, most of them are filled with many bulletin and message boards that hold fliers, pamphlets, and advertisements about local events and announcements. Almost anyone can post their message or ad on one of these boards, including you. Use a bulletin board to post an ad and state that you are looking for a partner for English speaking practice. And it doesn’t have to be at a college. There are similar message boards in grocery stores, restaurants, and other local organizations. Putting your ad in these places will help you reach a much bigger audience and demographic. You never know who might see it and call you!

    Look For A Partner Online

To reach an even broader audience, you could also trying posting an ad on the internet, on sites such as Craigslist. There are also website forums and social media sites. It is no different than posting on a message board- it is just digital! There are many people who use the internet and type in English, but are not actually fluent themselves. Just going online, posting on different sites, and interacting with other users could help you find a partner.

There are also some websites designed specifically for meeting up with people that have similar interests. You could use one of these sites, such as MeetUp, to find an in-person partner for English speaking practice. With almost the entire world connected on the internet, the possibilities are endless.
