It is very important to improve one’s English fluency so that one can converse socially and also for business. The more one practices the quicker one improves. This covers the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Here are 10 resources that are great to improve English fluency so one can converse fluently with native English speakers:

Books, magazines or newspapers

By changing one’s reading patterns, one can quickly read different articles containing different words and new spellings. Make a note of these words and learn them all together with their meanings. Practice reading out loud, starting slowly and then increasing the speed of your reading. Record yourself, play back the recording and then rerecord making improvements in pronunciation. Try reading poems as a different way of learning new vocabulary. There are plenty of books, magazines or newspapers to buy either in ‘book’ form or to buy via the Internet.

Podcasts/YouTube/Radio

Listen to different programmes/podcasts on the radio or on YouTube. This helps improve one’s accents as well as teaching us new vocabulary. Listen to audio books. Listen to as many different programmes to improve your English fluency.

Writing

Practise writing what one is listening to, whether from radio programmes or films, ensuring that one can understand the meanings of all new words. Also practise writing letters and emails on various topics for example sending an invitation to a friend, writing a postcard about a recent holiday, writing a shopping list or updating your CV.

The more you practise the more confident you become and the fewer mistakes you will make. Start by speaking slowly and then the more confident you become the more quickly you will start speaking well.
